Low-Code development: the key to efficiency in 2023 and beyond

The executives of the main companies worldwide have cataloged the year 2023 as the "Year of Efficiency". In this post we will tell you how Low-Code development has become a key factor in achieving this efficiency and agility that is key in companies today.

We come from several quite convulsed years: pandemic, wars, high global inflation, slowdown in the international economy, etc., and this has once again led to efficiency and productivity becoming key elements in organizations. Doing more (and faster!) with less is a core value that organizations today seek and appraise.

In the software industry, we have been witnessing this process for several years. And without a doubt, this global scenario has been a catalyst that accelerated this trend and the digital transformation processes. We already know: the world needs more and more software. The vast majority of our day-to-day activities require software. We all see it in our daily activities. However, building this software is becoming more and more complex.

This leads us to the well-known “software paradox”: in order for software to be ever simpler to use, have more scalability, and more security, the software development process is ever more complex. And to make the scenario even more complex: we increasingly need greater flexibility to quickly adapt to new business needs, and agility, in order to reduce time-to-market as much as possible. In addition, technologies are advancing faster and faster, we need to build software that can evolve and adapt, that is future-proof.

The software industry, in general, has tried to solve this challenge, encouraging more people to work in the world of software development. But this approach is no longer scaling, since despite the efforts of companies, educational institutions, and governments, we are having a very large gap between qualified personnel and the demand for developers.

In Uruguay, according to estimates by the Uruguayan Chamber of Information Technology (CUTI), today we have a gap of approximately 3,000 professionals1. This is true all over the world, in the United States, for example, a Forrester study estimates the deficit at 500,000 developers by 20242.

Therefore, we have to think of other solutions: not only to introduce more people into the industry, but also more technology to automate everything that can be automated. You have to think about new ways of building software. And this is precisely what Low-Code development proposes. Low-Code platforms take advantage of a lot of accumulated knowledge, good practices, methodologies, and together with machine learning or AI mechanisms, they seek to achieve this automation in software development.

Does this mean we don't have to program anymore? Of course not! When we use Low-Code tools we are going to program in the languages of these platforms, or in some cases, we also continue programming in traditional languages, but we are not going to be reinventing the wheel all the time.

Currently, Low-Code development is a growing trend, and according to a Forrester study, today there are already 37% of development teams that use this type of platform3. And if we talk about efficiency and productivity, I cannot fail to mention another Forrester study that states that working with Low-Code technology allows you to develop 10 times faster compared to traditional development4. If 2023 is the year of efficiency, it is the ideal year for more and more companies and organizations to adopt the Low-Code development paradigm!

At WorkWithPlus we have been noticing this trend for more than 15 years. And we are convinced that the present and future of software development is Low-Code, and in particular, we fully trust GeneXus as the ideal platform to face the next technological waves.

GeneXus is a platform that for more than 30 years has been taking advantage of the benefits of Low-Code and Artificial Intelligence to simplify and automate the tasks of creating, evolving and maintaining Multi-Experience and Multi-Platform applications. By modeling knowledge with GeneXus and generating for the latest technologies, companies can make systems that respond and adapt faster to changes and the new realities of business and markets, providing eternally young code5.

At WorkWithPlus we try to take the productivity and efficiency that GeneXus offers us to the next level. Allowing to further automate a wide range of tasks, and generating systems with an amazing UX. Working with WorkWithPlus increases productivity 4x compared to working only with GeneXus!

In conclusion, Low-Code development is presented as the key to achieving efficiency and agility in development processes in 2023, and in the coming years. I would like to invite you to discover how GeneXus+WorkWithPlus can take your productivity to the next level and transform the way you build software.

Be part of the Low-Code revolution and unlock new possibilities for your organization! 🚀
